Maury graduated from Samford University and the Birmingham School of Law with a B.A. and J.D., respectively. After law school, he joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent. During his 25 years of service, he investigated crimes involving financial crimes, illegal narcotics, violent crimes, and counter terrorism. He also conducted surveillance and international investigations in Canada, Central America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Maury retired from the FBI in 2009 and has since served as a consultant to various firms regarding such matters as the New Orleans Saints football team, the BP oil project, as well as trial preparation work for several law firms. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and is a member of the Alabama State Bar. Maury enjoys spending time with family and serving his community; as well as attending special events.
